How does a wireless receiver work?

When information is passed between points that are not connected by wires and cables, the operating system is said to be wireless. The distances between the points could be short as in a few feet or long as in many miles. The point that sends the information is known as the transmitter and the point that receives it will be the wireless receiver. Wireless technology is in use for computers, doorbells, Bluetooth, cordless telephones and GPS, to name a few.

In a wireless security system the audio / video system is sent to the wireless receiver through a radio band.  In the field of entertainment wireless microphones are very useful. The sound from the microphone is transferred by radio waves to the wireless receiver which is the sound amplifying and recording equipment.

For computers there is the wireless mouse. The transmitter is located in the mouse and the signal is received by the wireless receiver that is located in the computer. The wireless receiver couldbe a separate device that can be plugged in.

In a wireless doorbell system the wireless receiver will be the chime. Due to its mobility it could be placed anywhere in the house but within the range of the transmitter.

A set of wireless headphones allows you to listen to your favorite music or movie without disturbance to you or anyone around. The wireless receiver will receive the signals and will be decoded to give you hours of enjoyment.

When the wireless receiver does not receive the proper signals then the information could be distorted. Sometimes, the problems could be very basic. Care should be taken that the radio transmitters of various wireless devices are not in close proximity to each other. Otherwise, the wave lengths get overloaded and the wireless receiver gets a distorted message or it could malfunction. Weak batteries in a transmitter could give out weak signals. When this happens there is plenty of interference and the wireless receiver will malfunction. Sometimes a device would have a combination system that will have two wireless systems on the same frequency. Care should be taken that only one transmitter is turned on at any given time. The wireless receiver often has a squelch control that protects against interference. Higher settings result in lowering the operating range.

Wireless devices are very useful and convenient because of its absence of cords and wires. With proper settings for the wireless receiver and transmitter you can be assured of using many devices with ease.
